Balcony solar calculator
Pick your city, the way your balcony faces and the size of the kit. Output comes from PVGIS (European Commission); savings depend on how much of that energy you use as it is produced.
This is an independent information site: we do not make or sell solar kits.
Which way does your balcony face?
Turn the compass and see how much you lose compared with the best position (south, 30°). PVGIS data for the city you choose.
Drag the compass, click a direction or use the arrow keys.

594 kWh/year with a 800 Wp kit
We do not calculate north: a north-facing balcony gets almost no direct sun and a kit rarely pays off.

How we calculate it
- Output: PVGIS v5.3 for 1 kWp at that city, orientation and tilt, multiplied by the kit size. System losses: 14%. Data retrieved on 6 November 2026.
- No shading: a balcony in partial shade can produce much less. PVGIS only accounts for the terrain on the horizon.
- Energy used at home: between 25% and 80% of the output, depending on your usage and whether someone is home during the day, with a ±10 point margin. This is our own estimate, calibrated against figures published by Verbraucherzentrale and Finanztip (HTW Berlin simulator).
- Energy you do not use flows into the grid unpaid and does not count as savings.
- Payback divides the kit price by the yearly savings. It leaves out panel degradation, maintenance and changes in electricity prices.
